Why social media is causing more harm than good
Some issues cause controversy, but social media does more good than harm in retrospect.The internet has become a major source of information for many people.In terms of mental health and wellbeing, there have been concerns that young adults, teenagers, and even children are spending too much time on their phones, leading to obsessive behaviour and letting technology govern their lives.We can quickly see what politicians and celeb….Twitter, for instance, is one of the social media platforms where hate speech is most prevalent, even amongst teenagers.
• cyber crimes, fraud and scams.Phones and social media affect the way people maintain eye contact and posture.When we are addicted to social media, we will tend to keep to ourselves and not talk to anybody which makes us antisocial.Most of the movies some of our youths watch on social media parades indecent dressings which they adopt thinking they are imitating the celebrity characters.You see things that people have and post about and wish that you had.
Social media helps people who are socially isolated or shy connect with other people.You're only doing it to yourself.With this addiction, there is a lack of time spent doing productive things such as exercise, school work, cleaning etc.With the inability to switch off, many teens sleep patterns are disturbed.Being bitter, judgmental and jealous is a side effect of social media exposure.
This addiction could cause families and friendships to be broken due to the lack of interaction.
